Surgical Spotlight: FUNCTIONAL AMPUTEES - A historical review of the Ertl Procedure and it's founder, Janos von Ertl, by Doctors William J. Ertl, MD, John W. Ertl, MD, and Jan P Ertl, MD

In 1920,  Professor Janos Ertl, Sr., MD, of Hungary, developed the Ertl procedure in order to return a high number of amputees to the work force. During this time amputees had significant problems with pain and difficulty with prosthetic wear. Today the procedure is responsible for improving the lives of amputees worldwide. The continued success of the Ertl Procedure is now  spearheaded by Ertl’s grandsons, Dr. Jan Ertl of Kaiser Sacramento and Dr. William Ertl of The University of Oklahoma, Health Sciences Center.
